introduction to hand-lettering workshop at the local

May 8, 2019

I did something scary.  And as it goes, it was incredibly fun and rewarding and rad. It’s funny how that works.

I’ve been handlettering for a long, long time.  I remember taking an after school class in middle school with one of those slanted pens that allows you to mimic the standard thin and thick lines in traditional calligraphy.  I also remember lettering words and phrases on foggy mirrors after showers.  I’ve lettered wedding invites, maps, lots of quotes for Stand to Serve and anything in between.

However, when it came to teaching other people about handlettering, I couldn’t possibly.  I’m an engineer, who happened to pick up a pen, who am I to teach a workshop? We sure say the meanest things to ourselves, don’t we?

I chose to burn my boat, I scheduled a class and THEN, we had a blizzard in April.  So I reschedule two different sessions, the first one was last week and was so, stinking, fun.  The next one is May 23rd and there are still a few spots left if you don’t want to miss out!

If you aren’t in the area and want to start practicing, these are the pens I used for the workshop and this a great notebook to start practicing with!

richard grewar at the loud american

Oh how I missed this little place on the interwebs that I get to call my own. And I’ve missed sharing some of the amazing people that I’ve had the pleasure of photographing. And this was a new one. I’ve never shot live music (other than on my own at shows I’ve attended) and this […]
